Not what I expected. Initially a path is cleared , but 100 feet in you've got the thorn bushes from the west side. They're in the way /:overgrown & keep getting caught on your clothes . At at the end , (as far north as you can go) is a street.....with houses. NO VIEW OF WATER or any wildlife we could see. You must also be careful entering and exiting the park. Very narrow paved road -driveway, So if necessary, one car will have to pull over onto the grass/mud. Out of curiosity? Why didn't they do anything with the other county preserve on Edwards Ave? The only people there are hunters with automatic weapons - which doesn't allow for anybody to go in there , ( if they value their lives). That's a shame because there are deer, foxes , lots of odd birds, etc. Supppse to be only for bow-arrow hunting , but anyone that comes by between 5 and 7 AM will hear lots of loud automatic weapons. Keep up the good work Suffolk County w/these preserves.
Beautiful
Super annoyed today. I have hiked many times with my dog in the north fork preserve, but today I was told by the groundskeeper that hikers aren't allowed in. Only hunters. It says on the county parks site this isn't the case "SHARE THE WOODS: Hikers are permitted in these areas throughout the archery season." so why is an employee blocking my access?I wasn't sure so I left, but now I'm pissed. I pay taxes too. The preserve isn't just for hunters. Dude said "you can come back Jan 1" like I should not enjoy the fall?!?
